Melitopol, also spelled as Melitopol', is an administrative center of Melitopol district in Zaporozhye region of Ukraine. The town Melitopol is located 60 km south of Zaporozhye on the Molochnaya river, and close to the Azov Sea. Melitopol is a transit point while driving from Moscow to Crimea. Melitopol is considered as a so called gateway to the Crimea and the intersection of roads between cities and regions. During the tourist season (May to October) about 40000 people drive through this town. Melitopol is a hometown to about 158 thousand people. Melitopol sees itself as a unique town, which is based on an ancient agricultural civilization. Many various ethno-cultural groups live there, providing an example of peaceful coexistence, and ethnic tolerance.
